Spark of Inspiration

A lot has happened since my last blog post almost 2 years ago. Shortly after my last post I got engaged and life hasn’t slowed down since! I was married last June and celebrated many other weddings of loved ones last year, and the parties will continue this year as well. I guess I’m at that age! My Husband (I love saying that!) got a new job last year, and we get to spend more time together. We’re actually busier now since he’s not working every weekend, but I love it! And now we’re trying to buy a condo here in Chicago. This a most terrifying and stressful process, but I am so excited to *potentially* own our own home!

All this busy-ness has been wonderful, but I can’t help but feel the need to get a little creative. This blog has always been a great outlet for my creativity, but my busy schedule left me feeling tired and inspiration-less which made me decide to change the overall goal of my blog. My posts will change from trend and red carpet posting to simply posting things that inspire me, with hopes that I might inspire you and keep my creative mojo going.

I hope you will like the new Vital Style. I encourage you to comment and send me things that inspire you too.

To get things started, here is a picture I took of a flower arrangement I made with flowers from Trader Joe’s. This might be my new favorite hobby! It’s relatively inexpensive and easy to create something really beautiful.

Trader Joe Flower Arrangement

*Le sigh* I love flowers!

P.s. A little eucalyptus (*the greenery) goes a long way. A bunch was only $2.99 and it made all the difference in the arrangement.

March Shoe of the Month

With a vacation to Playa del Carmen in my near future (although, it can’t come soon enough), I am on the hunt for the perfect wedge sandal. This pair caught my eye while perusing and thought they were worthy of the ‘Shoe of the Month’ title.

Daydreaming About Beach Wear

It’s March 19th, tomorrow is the first day of Spring and it’s 31 degrees in Chicago…

Obviously, I’m less then thrilled with the weather and am totally over cold temperatures and this gross rain/snow mixture that seems to come once a week. So, to get my mind, and hopefully yours too, off this dreary weather, here is some beach wear to dream about wearing… soon!

2013 Oscar Red Carpet Favorites

Last night was the biggest night of the year for the red carpet and these ladies stole the show at the 2013 Academy Awards. I loved so many gowns at the Oscars, but my favorites are….

Jessica Chastain, 2013 Academy Awards, Oscars, Red Carpet, Armani Prive

Jessica Chastain wore Armani Prive and looked radiant. My favorite thing about this gown is the diagonal lines of the overlay fabric, it accentuates her curves perfectly. And her red lips are the perfect final touch.

Kerry Wasington, 2013 Academy Awards, Oscars, Red Carpet, Miu Miu

Kerry Washington in Miu Miu was one of my favorites because she looks fantastic in this coral color and the beading on the bodice is just the right amount.

Naomi Watts, 2013 Academy Awards, Oscars, Red Carpet, Armani Prive

Naomi Watts in Armani Prive wowed me. The metallic fabric and the cut out neckline is so stunning and perfect for a nominee. Another win for Armani.

Charlize Theron, 2013 Academy Awards, Oscars, Red Carpet, Dior Haute Couture

Charlize Theron donned a white Dior Haute Couture gown. So many people say white looks too bridal for a red carpet (and I think it’s the hair) but she pulls white off without a ‘bridal’ look. The perfect word to describe Charlize here is statuesque.

Jennifer Garner, 2013 Academy Awards, Oscars, Red Carpet, Gucci

Jennifer Garner wore Gucci at the Oscars and looked beautiful. The front of the gown was very simple, but the back was covered in ruffles and topped with a vertical bow. To make this look even more stunning, Jennifer wore 200 carats of Neil Lane jewelry, which totaled to about $2.5 million!

What did you think of the Oscar’s red carpet?

2013 Golden Globes Runway Vs. Red Carpet

One thing I really love to do after a fabulous red carpet event is to compare the celebrity looks with the runway looks.

Here are last night’s red carpet gowns from the 2013 Golden Globe Awards.

Dior Couture, Golden Globes, Jennifer Lawrence, Runway

On the left is a photo from the Fall 2012 Dior Couture runway show and next to it is Jennifer Lawrence in the gown on the red carpet.

The black belt Jennifer is wearing accentuates the waste and breaks up the long bodice on the gown. The drop waist really elongates the model’s torso, and there really isn’t a waist definition. Jennifer Lawrence gets the points on this one.

Reem Acra, Golden Globes, Red Carpet, Isla Fisher

Isla Fisher looks stunning in Reem Acra on the right with the runway look from the 2013 Resort collection on the left.

This is really a toss up for me. Both looks are elegant, and while the gown fits differently on the two women, both look great!

Giorgio Armani, Golden Globes, Olivia Munn, Red Carpet

The model on the left is wearing Giorgio Armani at the Spring 2013 RTW runway show and Olivia Munn is on the right.

This is definitely a more casual dress option then what we usually look for at the Golden Globes, but I like the way Olivia’s look is dressed up a little more with the Chopard jewels and elegant clutch.

Oscar de la Renta, Golden Globes, Red Carpet, Jessica Alba

Jessica Alba, on the right, looks beautiful in a mermaid Oscar de la Renta gown and on the left is the model wearing the gown at the Spring RTW 2013 runway show.

Jessica Alba looks a little more put together than the model, mainly with the hair style. The soft curls work great with the gown’s style, and the Harry Winston jewels are the final touch that make me favor the celebrity look over the runway look.

What looks do you favor? Runway or Red Carpet?

Who Wore it Better

Tonight at the 2012 AMA’s, Nicki Minaj was all dolled up in a brightly hued Monique Lhuillier gown. She looked fantastic, really, but when I watched her walk on stage to receive her award, I felt a little deja vu. Only a few months earlier, on September 23rd at the 2012 Emmy’s, Julie Bowen (from Modern Family) wore the same gown. Take a look below:

I think it’s really interesting that these two women chose to wear the same gown. They seem to have such different personalities and I would never pick them to end up in a battle of ‘Who Wore it Better’. And I can’t believe Nicki’s stylist or assistant didn’t catch this before she walked down the red carpet.

As for who wore it better, I have to say Julie Bowen. Nicki Minaj is rockin the dress with her curves, but it looks a little sloppy on her. Maybe it’s the messy hair, or maybe it’s because the dress needs some major pressing and steaming.

It’s your turn to sound off! Who wore it better: Nicki Minaj or Julie Bowen?

November Shoe(s) of the Month

November Shoe(s) of the Month

Every month I choose a shoe that stands out to me as the Shoe of the Month. This month I find myself in dire need of some new shoes and I couldn’t choose just one shoe to share.
Here is a look at my November Shoes of the Month (and my shopping list too!)

Red Carpet vs Runway: 2012 Emmys

I love award season! It’s always exciting to see what my favorite celebrities are wearing and even more exciting to see how their looks compare to the models on the runway. Take a look at some of my favorite looks from the 2012 Emmy Awards and let me know who you think wore it better, the celebrity or the model.

On the left is Ginnfer Goodwin wearing Monique Lhuillier. On the right is the model showing the gown in the 2013 Resort collection for Monique Lhuillier. I like the shoes Ginnfer Goodwin wore with this dress. The ankle strap is a little more delicate then what the model wore and (it’s hard to see in this photo) the shoes have a cap toe, which I love!

On the left we have January Jones wearing Zac Posen at the Emmys. On the right we have the model showing the Zac Posen gown in the designer’s 2013 Resort collection. I love how dramatic this gown is with the high-low skirt effect (which was very popular on the Emmy’s red carpet this year). I like the extended train on the model, but I understand that a train isn’t always practical, even on the red carpet.

On the left we have Emily VanCamp (from my favorite TV show, Revenge! Who’s excited for the second season?) wearing J. Mendel. On the right is the model showing the J. Mendel gown from the 2013 Resort Collection. I absolutely love the bow bracelet by Van Cleef Arpels Emily wore with this gown! It’s a great touch along with the Judith Leiber clutch.

On the left is Hayden Panettiere in Marchesa and on the right is the model showing the gown in the Spring 2013 collection for Marchesa. I have to admit, when I first saw this gown on the runway a few weeks ago, I wasn’t in love, but Hayden gives this gown more shape (in a good way, of course)! I also like how Hayden has swept the blue netting to the side, which gives more depth to the gown.

Who do you think wore these looks better? Celebrity or Model?

September Shoe of the Month

While perusing the Nordstrom shoe department online, a pair of Dolce Vita booties caught my eye, so I decided to check out what other styles Dolce Vita had on their website. That is when I stumbled upon the September shoe of the month.

I love the contrast of cognac and black because it opens up so many outfit options. A black or brown ensemble is going to look fantastic with this bootie. And the chunky heel is not only super popular right now, but will definitely offer more stability for slick, winter sidewalks.

So what would I wear with this bootie? I would wear it with the Dolce Vita Lynana silk dress and a pair of opaque, black tights. Prints are a must for your fall wardrobe and these colors are perfect for the season!
